When a tool has a purpose
A suitable profiling tool can give people a shared way to discuss differences or support reflection. Its value depends on the question, how it is used and what happens afterwards.
I’m Lisa LLoyd, a business psychologist and Chartered Psychologist, and I work with organisations to understand leadership, team and culture concerns, looking beyond individual behaviour before we decide what needs to change.
You might be considering a profile, a workshop or coaching because something at work needs to change. Those options can each have a role. The question is whether they address the situation you actually face.
I look at people’s experience alongside their responsibilities, relationships and working environment. That can help us decide what needs attention, without reducing a difficult situation to a label for one person.
A team may need to examine the work it shares, not just the skills of its individual members. Expectations, decisions and relationships can all deserve attention.
Your managers may need to practise new skills, with time and support to use them at work. We look at both, rather than assuming training content alone will answer the question.
Survey findings or different accounts of the same issue may leave you unsure what to do. We can start with that information and look at what it does, and doesn’t, explain.
We agree what needs to be understood and who should contribute. Feedback, conversations or agreed observation may help. We look at what that information can tell us before choosing a response.
The Better Work Ecosystem considers Individual, Team, Leadership, Organisation and Wider Environment. The Better Work Approach guides how we investigate and respond through Discover, Interpret, Align and Embed.
My approachYou’ll know who you’re working with and how any other practitioners are involved. My focus here is leadership, teams, development and culture. These organisational services don’t include clinical treatment, recruitment testing or training to become a psychologist.
Meet LisaLisa skillfully explained how to use and apply psychological and evidenced principles for planning future of work strategies.
We agree who is commissioning the work and who can help us understand the situation. That may involve one leader, an existing team or people from different parts of the organisation.
Yes. Individual leadership coaching gives a leader space to think about their responsibilities and responses. We still consider what’s happening around them.
A short outline of what’s happening, why it matters and what you’ve already tried is enough to begin. We’ll agree any detailed information gathering later, once the purpose of the work is clear.
Tell me what’s happening in your organisation. We can discuss whether my work is relevant and where it would be useful to begin.
